First things first! If you are printer reading this or a potential customer reading this post, this is important. Through the years QR code sites have changed. You used to be able to create a QR code for free and it never expired. Now you pretty much have to pay for QR codes for them to never change or expire. Speaking from experience as a printer, always have the client provide the QR code. These things are very quirky and we learned the hard way that even sites that say the QR code doesn’t expire, after 2 weeks it actually did. Thankfully this client was in no hurry and it was our busy season so we didn’t get to their order for about 3 weeks. This was a blessing in disquise for both of us as we checked the code on a setup shirt and realized it had expired. It wasn’t suppose to expire according to the website.
When it comes to printing a QR Code on t-shirts, have the client provide the QR code. That way if the code ever expires be it two weeks, two months, two years, the printer is not responsible.
QR codes are a great idea for custom t-shirts
Now that we have that out of the way, printing a QR code on t-shirts is a great idea. For one it brings intrique. Imagine seeing a shirt with just a QR code on the back of it. You have just the code and no words. There is no way you aren’t going to bust out your phone and see what that code leads to. It’s eye catching and intriquing. Where else are you going to get that outside of an art gallery?
Printing a QR code on t-shirts is just a modern technological way to advertise your brand better. Just as printing phone numbers on t-shirts went away with website addresses, website addresses are going away for the better QR code. Nobody remember a phone number they see for an electrician they see on a t-shirt. They were however able to remember abcdeletric.com. Now the QR code takes all of the memory out of the equation. Load up your camera, snap the code, safe the information. It’s an ingenious marketing strategy and one that is not utilized enough.
