How to get the best price on your custom t-shirts

First and foremost be prepared. There is a lot of information we screen printers need to provide an accurate price quote. Understanding the screen printing process will allow you to understand how the pricing works for a particular order.

Custom t-shirt pricing is made up a few things.
1. The shirt – is it 100% cotton, and 50/50 blend, a 100% poly shirt, a triblend? All of these will have different price points.
2. How many shirts do you need to order? Quantity is a big factor in custom t-shirt pricing.
3. Where are we printing? Print location is a big factor. Are we printing on the front only? Front and back? Front back and sleeve?
4. How many colors are in the design for each print location? Is it a 4 color front print and 1 color back print? A one color front print and one color back print?

These 4 pieces of information are needed to accurately quote a custom t-shirt job. How to get the best price on your custom t-shirts is determined by how cost effective you order is. A small order of shirts with a log of print colors will often times be cost prohibitive. Where as a small order with one print location and one print color will be your most cost effective.

Print colors and shirt color also have some determining factors. Does the print require an under base (See post picture). A first glance of the finished product it looks like a gold and red two color print on a navy shirt. However if you look at the left side of the image you’ll see a white under base was needed to make this design work on a navy shirt. So while it looks like a 2 color design, it’s printed and priced as a 3 color design. The under base is a buffer between the lighter less opaque print colors and the darker more opaque navy shirt. Without the under base the red and gold would print rough and have navy fibers showing through. With the under base the gold and red print true to color and smooth and no navy fibers are showing through on the design. Experience allows us to look at a job and price it accurately. How to get the best price on your custom t-shirts is just knowing the most cost effective way to print a design. We can help with you.
